Probably our favorite meal we had in Malta. We went in w/o a reservation and got a table in less than 10 minutes. The atmosphere was amazing, the staff were sooo nice and polite. The place was packed and after seeing what the people next to us ate I could understand why. We got the Kabuli Pulao which the table next to us RAVED about, and the Cumin Lamb Noodles. The portions are HUGE so we decided to skip the starters and go straight for the mains. The Kabuli is A-MA-ZI-NG, the meat fell right off the bone, it was so juicy so flavorful and the rice was great as well. We had high expectations for this dish and it sure delivered. As for the Cumin Lamb Noodles, they blew us away. Maybe because we didn't have as big expectations as for the other dish but god were they tasty. I would go even as far as they are even better (imo). The meat was delicious, the noodles themselves WOW. I don't know if they are made in house or not, if they are KUDOS to them!!! If I ever come back to Malta again this is where I'm going first. Sadly for us we went there on our last night and didn't have the opportunity to visit again on this particular vacation.

10/10 for everything and if you are in doubt just go in give it a go. You will be blown away!!!

We started with the Baba Ganoush and the Colombian Chicharrón.
For our mains, we chose two of Ayu’s Signature dishes. The Kabuli Pulao, a braised lamb shank served with rice, caramelised carrots, raisins and toasted almonds, which was delicious. The lamb was tender and the combination of sweet and savoury flavours worked really well. We also had the Sri Lankan Black Pork Curry.

The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, with plants and thoughtful decor that reflects the owners’ travels. It’s a lovely concept that ties in perfectly with the menu, which features dishes inspired by different parts of the world.

Visited during our 2 week holiday. A 20 minute walk from our hotel. We had booked (advisable) friendly welcome from staff. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco, then falafel and Bao Buns (Korean Chicken) to share. Then Thai Green Curry Chicken, and Moqueca Baina (seafood stew) all our food was delicious, freshly cooked and well presented. Its a luvly friendly restaurant, with a luvly atmosphere. Worth a visit. :) :) :)

I decided to visit this restaurant after seeing it mentioned by the Michelin Guide, which caught my attention.

I went during lunch hours, and the place was not busy at all, which made for a calm and relaxed visit. I had the Sri Lankan black pork curry as my main dish and a bottle of ginger beer.

The food was average. It wasn’t very full of flavour, but it was well prepared.

The service was really nice, friendly, and attentive throughout.

Overall, a positive experience!

We had a great evening in Ayu restaurant, and really enjoyed the concept of a travellers kitchen offering a wide variety of tasty dishes from Maltese, Afghani/Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine.

Everything we tried was tasty, and of good quality. The service was good and the waiters attentive.

In general the ambience and atmosphere were good, there seemed to be some electrical issues though with power going out for about half a minute two times during our stay, which was a bit weird, not sure what was going on.
